Missing gas station attendent Jessica Heeringa family hopeful

NORTON SHORES, MI -- The family and friends of missing gas station employee Jessica Heeringa remained hopeful as they stood under a tent near the Exxon Mobil gas station where she was last seen.

Heeringa disappeared on late Friday, April 26, near the end of her shift as a clerk at the Exxon Mobil. Police are investigating her disappearance as an abduction.

The family stood together and continued to pass out fliers on Tuesday, April 30, on vacant land next to the gas station at 1196 E. Sternberg Road. They were joined by dozens of friends and well-wishers.

Somebody took Jessica Heeringa from a Michigan gas station Friday night. Police seem certain of that but say they're "grasping at straws" for other evidence that might help them find the 25-year-old cashier.

Norton Shores, Michigan, Police Chief Daniel Shaw said that by Tuesday morning authorities had gotten 150 tips in the Heeringa case, but nothing conclusive.

"A lot of interesting tips that we can follow up on. Whether or not they're solid, it's hard to say because we have so little to work on with physical evidence. We're just grasping at straws. ... We're grasping for straws with whatever we can find at the scene," Shawtold CNN affiliate ......

Muskegon County: Police release sketch of kidnapping suspect

The sketch, released by the Norton Shores Police Department today, April 30, was developed after witnesses met with a second artist through the Michigan State Police, said Norton Shores Police Department Chief Dan Shaw.

"I feel very confident about the sketch," he said. "On a scale of one to 10 it's a 10."

The driver is described as a white male, approximately 30 to 40 years old, 6 feet tall, medium to heavy build with broad shoulders, light brown or sandy blond wavy hair parted in the middle and slightly longer on top. He was last seen wearing a bright red or orange sweatshirt, police said.
